I fully agree -- electric fences are not effective with assertive dogs, dogs with a high pain threshold (as Boxers, Pit Bulls, Bulldogs, etc.) or dogs "on a mission" - i.e.: determined to take up a chase for any reason. Plus, it is true your dogs can .

The shock is intended to correct the behavior and encourage the dog to return to the safety of the yard. I had an invisible fence for my Boxer and it worked great! You can set the strength of the shock and how far you want the warning beep to reach. And yes I tested the shock on myself, so I knew what she would feel.
